Meredith Fowlie is an Associate Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. She holds the Class of 1935 Endowed Chair in Energy at the university, and is a Research Associate at UC Berkeley’s Energy Institute at Haas and the National Bureau of Economic Research.

An applied economist, Meredith works extensively on the economics of energy markets and the environment. Past work has explored how market-based emissions regulations are working in practice, the economics of energy efficiency, the demand-side of energy markets, and energy use in emerging economies. Her work has appeared in The American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, The Quarterly Journal of Economics, and other academic journals.

Before joining the faculty at UC Berkeley, Meredith was an Assistant Professor of Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan.

She has a PhD in Environmental and Resource Economics from UC Berkeley, and an MSc in Environmental Economics and a BSc in International Agriculture and Development (Honours) from Cornell University.
