Maarten Voors is an Associate Professor at the Development Economics Group at Wageningen University. He received his PhD from Wageningen University in 2011 (with honors) and was an Isaac Newton Trust Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Land Economy, University of Cambridge 2011-2013.

His main field is development economics, and his research focuses on institutions, (post-conflict) development and behavior and he uses a variety of methods including surveys, lab and field experiments and econometric analysis. Maarten have conducted field research in Burundi, Sierra Leone, Liberia, DRC and elsewhere. Recent projects focus on institutions in development, rural electrification and deforestation.

Maarten is principal investigator of EEG project on Electrifying growth: Electricity access for productive use in Sierra Leone 

He is a member of the Wageningen Young Academy, and Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP), a Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Environment, Energy and Natural Resource Governance (C-EENRG) and involved with the Berkeley Initiative for Transparency in the Social Sciences as a BITSS Catalyst.
