Dr. Dawit Mekonnen is a Research Fellow at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in the Environment and Production Technology Division. Dawit is based in IFPRI’s Addis Ababa office. He holds a PhD in Agricultural and Applied Economics from the University of Georgia, and MSc and BA degrees in Economics from Addis Ababa University. His research interests include productivity and efficiency analysis, water economics, energy use in agriculture, agricultural input systems, and impact evaluation of development projects.

Dawit’s current research in Sub-Saharan Africa focuses on the economics of irrigation development and understanding the impact of irrigation on agricultural productivity, nutrition, health, and women’s empowerment with a focus on Ethiopia, Ghana, and Tanzania. His research in South Asia focuses on water governance and energy use in agriculture in the context of the Water-Energy-Food nexus.
