Meles is a Dean of Mekelle Institute of Technology-Mekelle University (MIT-MU). His research interests include cybersecurity, wireless communications, e-health technologies, renewable energy technology and economics of energy and electricity.

He has a BSc degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from Mekelle Institute of Technology (MIT), and a Master of Technology in Electrical Engineering with specialisation in Communications Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India.
