Awet is a lecturer at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department at Mekelle Institute of Technology. His current research interests include power electronics and drives applications for harvesting renewable energy, electrical machines, and power quality.

Awet has an Advanced Diploma in Electrical Technology, a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Maichew Technical College and Mekelle University, and an MSc degree in Electronics Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy.
