The impact of pre-paid meters on consumer behaviour in Bangladesh and Ethiopia

Abebe Damte Beyene is a senior research fellow at the Environment and Climate Research Center (ECRC) based at the Policy Studies Institute (PSI) in Ethiopia.

Abede's field of specialisation is in environmental economics which include natural resource management, energy, climate change and agriculture. Methodologically he has a focus on applying micro-econometrics such as cross-section and panel data econometrics.

His current research focuses on household energy choice, improved cook stove use and REDD+, forest and people’s livelihood, and adaptation to climate change such as analysing the impact of sustainable land management practices.

He is the principal investigator on the EEG research project Impacts and drivers of policies for electricity access: Micro- and macro-economic analysis of Ethiopia's tariff reform and also a lead author of the EEG research paper Pre-paid meters and household electricity use behaviours: evidence from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
